ISR lessons are 10 minutes a day Monday-Friday. The 5 day-a-week lesson schedule allows ISR students to develop the muscle memory, body competence and confidence to self-rescue in an aquatic emergency. Lessons are one-on-one and each session is customized for your child's individual needs. On average, it takes 5-8 weeks to teach ISR skills to a child.
Infants who can sit by themselves and are 6-18 months old, will focus on how to roll onto their back to float, rest and breathe. They will be taught how to maintain this life-saving position until help arrives. Those who are developmentally ready will also learn a short swim to connect to their float.
Lessons for children 2-6 years old focus on teaching the swim-float-swim survival sequence. Children learn to swim with their head down; roll onto their back to float, rest, and breathe; and roll back over to resume swimming. They will use their skills to reach the side of the pool, where they can either crawl out or until they can be rescued.
ISR Self-Rescue Swimming sessions currently cost $95 a week. A one time ISR National Registration Fee of $105 will also be required before lessons start. This fee covers your child’s registration with ISR, which includes a medical screening by ISR's Registration and Evaluation Team (RET) of medical professionals to determine the health and well-being of your child and will review any health issues that would impact your child's safety/lessons. Every child is welcomed and will be worked with on an individual basis.
Registration happens about 1-2 months before the session starts. An email notification will be sent to parents on the email list announcing ISR Registration.
